Glory Temple Church

Glory Temple Church

Full Description

Minnie Chamblin came to Reno, Nevada during Labor Day weekend in 1958. Within days of her arrival, God begin to deal with her about answering the Call of God on her life which was to preach the gospel. In the spring of 1959 she met a woman preacher by the name of Opal Boteler. Within weeks of meeting they began having church services in an abandoned garage in Reno on West Fourth Street. Shortly thereafter, they rented the American Legion Hall in Sparks for their Sunday services. Sister Opal traveled and moved from Reno, so Sister Minnie continued to have regular services. On March 13, 1960, Sister Minnie obeyed the voice of the Lord and went to a lawyer who drew up the corporation papers for Glory Temple Church.

In 1961 church services were permanently moved to 7400 W. 4th Street to the church sanctuary that had been added on to her residence. Regular services, twice on Sunday and a mid week service on Thursday were held at that location until May of 1975 when she and her husband, John D. Foulk, acquired the current church property, at 16255 S. Virginia Street, Reno, Nevada.

She went home to be with Jesus on Sunday April 18th, 1999, Just three days after her 81st birthday she preached hervery last sermon entitled, “the Wonderful Works of God.”. As she stepped to the pulpit for the last time, she turned to the organ player and said, “Wally, will you play for me when I get to Heaven?” and he replied, “You bet.”

She read a few scriptures and preached for about 10 minutes, then bowed her head over the Bible which lay open on the pulpit and said, “I think, Brother Dwayne is going to have to finish this sermon.”

She fulfilled exactly 40 years of ministry in Reno. From spring of 1959 to the spring of 1999. Glory Temple has continued to reach the lost for Jesus and teach the body of Christ how to walk in victory until we are called home.
