Emeritus at Reno

Emeritus at Reno

Full Description

Emeritus at Reno is located in the “Old Southwest” neighborhood of Reno, bordering the Washoe Golf Course, which sits high above the city and offers spectacular views. We’re truly off the beaten track. Turn into the driveway to the golf course, go straight past Manor Care and all the way to the golf course entrance, and you’ll arrive at our lovely senior community. While we serve memory care residents only, we take them on outings at least twice a week – on scenic drives to see the fall foliage, to the Reno Balloon Races and during the summertime, we enjoy picnicking at any one of the many parks in the area, including Virginia Lake Park.

A Wonderful Selection

Our senior community is designed with four memory care “neighborhoods,” each with 13 small private studio apartments. Most have views of the courtyard; some with views of the golf course. Each apartment includes a bathroom (no shower for safety reasons), cable access, individually controlled temperature and air conditioning and emergency call buttons.

The rooms are small and intimate. Residents are welcome to create their own personal space by decorating their studios anyway they wish. They also have full access to the neighborhood’s own living room area, dining room and kitchen and can wander into the other three neighborhoods whenever they wish.

In the center of the community is our Town Square, with a wellness center, private dining room, group activities room, a beauty salon, and our community center. The Town Square offers many large windows looking out onto the secured courtyard area. Each neighborhood entrance is located in the Town Square and offers a sitting area with something different that invites engagement – a beautiful fish tank, a piano, a slot machine and in another, stuffed animals and a dollhouse. This is very much a place for residents to observe the world around them, just like if they were in the park, sitting on a bench. This unique set up – with small private rooms, individual neighborhoods and a central Town Square – creates the feeling of a small community within a town and gives residents the personal space they need, while encouraging them to engage with others. Visitors also often remark upon how cheerful, bright and clean our community is.

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

Our staff works closely with the resident’s family members and his or her doctor to communicate any changes we may see. Should the physician require a specific medical service beyond our scope of services, we will help connect our families to the appropriate medical resources. This can include home health agencies in the area that provide physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, as well as nursing care and wound care.

We also have an open relationship with three hospice agencies. It’s always up the family to decide which agency is best for their loved one and for them; we are here simply to make referrals. Once the family chooses a hospice provider, we will work closely with the agency to ensure that our care plans complement one another. We can also do X-rays and take blood right here, so that residents don’t have to leave our community to have lab work done.

Our Staff

Many of our staff members have been at Emeritus at Reno for many years. They are extremely professional, caring – and friendly. As a result, there is a real air of fun here. Our staff is delighted to be working with our residents and go out of their way to engage them in activities and conversation. Residents can’t always express their needs or even know what they need. For example, a resident may pace the hallways. Something is wrong – it could be that the resident is hungry or thirsty, but has forgotten what those sensations mean. Our caregivers have taken the time to get to know each individually, so that they can usually pick up on subtleties. If they don’t know immediately what might be causing distress, they have the training to investigate and to determine what needs to be done to resolve the problem.
