Full Description

Coach’s BBQ restaurant and catering opened November 2009 at 1499 N. Wells directly across from the Reno Livestock Event Center. Don Cortez, his wife Sharon and daughter Corrie are the heart, soul and driving forces behind Coach’s BBQ.

In April 2011, Coach’s BBQ will open its new location at 1825 Silverada Blvd., off of Oddie in the Sak N’ Save shopping center in north Reno. The new location will have a drive thru and feature happy hour specials.

Don “Coach” Cortez grew up in the Oakland Bay Area. He played all sports, and especially enjoyed football. He earned his masters degree from San Francisco State University in ‘73. Don went on to coach college football at San Francisco State, University of Oregon, West Texas State, and the University of Texas El Paso. Don was also the athletic director/head football coach for Panhandle State University Oklahoma.

Corrie Cortez, was born in Texas and grew up in the Oakland Bay Area. She played all sports, and excelled in competitive fielding events. Corrie worked in her father’s answering service during high school…

When the Coach moved his family to Reno, Corrie became the operations manager for the family
